SLE Specialism: Science

I have been a teacher of science for 8 years and currently in my 3rd year as a CTL at the Secondary school I am situated in, overseeing continually improving departmental results. Within science I am particularly interested in strategies that provide quick and usable feedback for students and have looked to develop the use of DIRT to facilitate student improvement. More recently we have developed these ideas to incorporate well planned and targeted summative assessment. I am also a keen iPad user in the classroom, developing the use of a number of engaging apps students can use to develop learning.

Alongside that I have a growing interest in curriculum design and methods such as interleaving and the effective use of extended sequences of learning that can be used to improve student retention. This interest has stemmed from developments within my own teaching and considerations about great pedagogical approaches.

I was delighted to become a Specialist Leader of Education in May 2014 with Barnsley TSA and doing so have gave me the opportunity to deliver a number of Science Twilights as part of the Schools Direct Twilight Programme.
