SLE Specialism: Leadership of CPD, Music & SEN

I have been in my current role as ‘Acting Assistant Head Teacher and Departmental Lead’ since Easter 2015. Prior to this I have been in a leadership role within school for over 2 years as a Senior Teacher and Assistant Lead of department. I am also lead teacher for performing arts within our school.

I have also supported, managed and delivered the following training to a variety of schools and individuals on:

  • ‘Key Levers for High Impact’ to delegates exploring how the country’s leading outstanding special schools work in practice. Part of the Specialist Schools and Academy Trusts course ‘Leading the outstanding Special School’ for Head teachers and school leaders.
  • Inclusion – Supporting learners with SEN to schools direct students
  • Curriculum development in the special school. Working with a neighbouring authority special school.
  • Supporting the work of the SENCO in a mainstream setting

I am also a member of the strategy board for the Barnsley Music Education Hub, helping to foster and promote the longevity of music making and education within the borough of Barnsley. As part of the work with the strategy board I regularly support the work of the music service, delivering training at the music network meetings to both Head teachers and classroom practitioners. This has included:

  • Ipads as a compositional device within music making
  • Primary music curriculum development

I have also delivered training to colleagues and supported in the following areas:

  • Supporting PGCE, School Direct students and mentoring
  • Supporting NQT’s and mentoring
  • Assessment and target setting
  • Mantle of the Expert
  • Sound beams in the music classroom
  • Managing staff
  • The role of the performance manager
  • Closing the Gap – Effective pupil progress reporting
  • Effective questioning and teacher mobility for AFL
